Rosacea

Rosacea is a vascular disorder characterized by too many blood vessels that are dilated, hot and red. IPL/Photofacial removes a large portion of these hyper-reactive vessels and generates growth of stronger vessels in their place. This decreases sensitivity as it reduces flushing. The procedure also thickens skin because it causes significant collagen growth.

Here are some highlights of your Rosecea Treatments with Louisa Lang, R.N.

  • Lumenis One™ equipment is used for all treatments because it offers the best results to date. Lumenis One™ is simply the most technologically advanced IPL/Photofacial available. With earlier machines, almost half of the energy was lost before reaching the target. The Lumenis One™ delivers the greatest energy to the blood vessels, where it is needed, with virtually no loss of energy through the skin- a truly significant advancement.

  • Each patient is evaluated and treatments are customized according to each patients needs. The key to successful IPL/Photofacial treatment is noting how the patient responds to the first treatment session, and then custiomizing the energy, pulse duration, pulse delay and wavelengths to advance their subsequent treatments. You cannot do this using pre-set levels.

  • Louisa recommends a minimium of five treatments spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart (depending on Patient response). She has recently experienced success with treatments every two weeks (rather that the customary three weeks).

  • Louisa uses Levulan (levulenic acid) frequently and has attained great results with it in association with IPL/Photofacial. The entire flush zone is treated, especially the nose which is very vascular, and usually treats the ears.

  • A bit of swelling and redness is to be expected for a day or two after a treatment. You should also expect your face to feel a little flushy, sensitive, tender and over-reactive for a week or two after the procedure. This is normal and indicates that you had an effective treatment.

  • All patients should avoid triggers and flushing as much as possible during the course of their treatment. Flushing damages the skin because it sends out chemical messages to grow more blood vessels. It also makes your skin more reactive and over-sensitive. Some flushing is almost inevitable; however, it needs to be contained as quickly as possible with air-conditioning, a fan or a cold shower. Pay attention to what foods make you flush and avoid them as much as possible.

Patients are encouraged to expect a new face in six months, not six weeks. IPL is a long term solution; it takes some time to lay down the new environment in your skin. You will continue to see results as long as three months after your last treatment session.

No one can guarantee results with IPL but Louisa makes a firm commitment to you, her patient, and helps to provide all of the knowledge and care that you deserve. She wants you to see results and will stay with you until she achieves them serving you with knowledge, compassion and care.
